In high-density urban traffic environments, maintaining real-time coordination and accurate incident documentation is critical for effective law enforcement.
The Gauteng Traffic Police faced increasing operational complexity across major metropolitan areas, where high vehicle volumes and dynamic road conditions placed growing demands on real-time communication, coordination, and evidence management.
To address these challenges, Lynknex and Instacom jointly delivered a connected body-worn camera solution for Gauteng law enforcement, supporting improved field visibility, more efficient workflows, and more structured evidence handling across traffic enforcement operations.

Customer
The Gauteng Traffic Police operates under the Gauteng Provincial Government in Gauteng, South Africa's most economically active and densely populated province. Responsible for provincial road traffic law enforcement, compliance operations, and accident prevention, the agency oversees major metropolitan areas including Johannesburg and Pretoria, where high vehicle density, significant freight transport activity, and continuous urban mobility create complex road safety and operational management challenges.
Challenges
Limited Visibility Over Field Enforcement Activities
Supervisors had limited real-time insight into frontline traffic enforcement operations. Operational oversight often relied on post-incident reporting rather than real-time situational awareness.
Need for Faster Response Coordination Across Units
Traffic operations often required coordinated action between multiple units across busy metropolitan areas. They needed more connected and efficient workflows to improve response speed and optimize resource deployment.
Fragmented Evidence Documentation Processes
Incident documentation was often handled through manual or partially digital processes. This fragmented workflow increased administrative workload and introduced risks of incomplete records.
Solutions
Lynknex, in strategic collaboration with local partner Instacom, deployed a high-performance, end-to-end modernization suite for the Gauteng Traffic Police. This integrated ecosystem combines the CX6 Connected Body-Worn Camera with the ViFusion Unified Critical Communication System (UCCS), creating a seamless link between frontline enforcement and command center oversight. Beyond high-definition field recording, the solution implements a centralized evidence management system that supports secure storage and a traceable digital chain of custody, improving operational transparency.

Real-Time Communication and Field Recording
Supporting LTE connectivity and third-party Push-to-Talk (PTT) services, CX6 enabled traffic police officers to maintain real-time communication while capturing FHD footage in field interactions. Dedicated buttons supported instant one-touch recording, photo capture, audio recording, and live video streaming within standardized digital workflows.
Rugged Design for Roadside Enforcement
Designed for roadside environments, CX6 featured a high-clarity camera, high-output loudspeaker, and noise-cancelling microphones for reliable performance in high-traffic, high-noise conditions. IP68-rated protection, drop resistance, lightweight construction, and hot-swappable battery capability supported continuous recording during battery replacement.
Command Center Connectivity and Coordination
Through platform integration, field personnel were connected with command centers via live location data, group calls, live video streaming, and coordinated task management, enhancing operational visibility, task coordination, and cross-unit communication.
Centralized Evidence Management
Captured digital evidence was transferred to and managed within a centralized evidence management system, providing structured storage, controlled access, and a traceable digital chain of custody for the case documentation.

Benefits
Enhancing Transparency and Public Trust
The deployment of CX6 with the ViFusion Unified Critical Communication System provided real-time visibility into frontline enforcement activities and ensured continuous digital video documentation of officer–public interactions. This strengthened procedural transparency, while the verifiable records supported dispute resolution and contributed to increased public confidence in traffic law enforcement.
Strengthened Court-Admissible Evidence Collection
Digitally captured, time-stamped, and securely stored video records improved the integrity and traceability of evidence. Digital data managed within a centralized system reduced the risk of loss or tampering and facilitated more efficient case preparation.
Enhanced Inter-Unit Coordination
By connecting officers, command centers, and operational data within a unified communication and dispatch platform, the solution improved situational awareness across units. Real-time information sharing and coordinated task allocation enhanced response speed, optimized resource deployment.
